Book a lesson

I am interested in helping people find creative and musical identity embedded in solid technique in singing, guitar and performance.

I have mentored individuals through performance anxiety, taught beginners and advanced singers and guitar players. With a history of acting training and music training, I can blend unique tools from both worlds to build a confident musician and performer.

I have been teaching since 2009 in all of the above mentioned subjects.

I have a First Class Honours Degree in Applied Music from UHI and studied acting for a year at The Bridge Theatre Training Company in Camden, London, after two years of college in Aberdeen.

I am based in Glasgow and can teach from my home or online.

I am passionate about music and performance, and want to mentor people who are passionate too! I have taught professionals and non-professionals and get a lot of joy from teaching.  My past and current students give consistent feedback about how much the lessons have helped them build confidence and improve their skills, with encouragement and realistic goals to work towards which are created for each individual.

Testimonials

“I have always wanted to find my singing voice but have been nervous to be genuine in my attempt due to fear of being judged and laughed at. Kim is the first person I was able to truly let my voice be heard by and I felt so accepted in her presence. Kim's ability to listen and guide along with her genuine desire to help me be the best version of me has been such a confidence boost. I can feel her sincere curiosity and guidance in the support she provides. Kim works hard to ensure that I have the tools, resources and variety to develop my skill but at the same time finds a frequency that fits my voice, my vibe and my goals. I would recommend Kim's guidance to anyone interested in discovering and uncovering their singing voice:):):) She is a gem and I am grateful to have found her.”

Acting, performance and performance anxiety

“What I learned in my time working with Kim are skills that I hold to be of the utmost value. Throughout the duration of our sessions together we explored a number of physical, technical, and even emotive skills related to acting. Being introduced to the Alexander Technique through our sessions truly changed me. It invited a new way for me to understand and respect my body in a way I never knew possible. The exercises taught me how to feel truly present in myself and surroundings, and how to then manipulate my body from a state of neutrality in performance, as well as in the every day. It gave a freeing release of tension that quelled physical and emotional stresses, enabled me to feel in control of my movement, and grounded me within my purest self. It was eye opening to learn how interconnected every aspect of the body and mind are, and to stop seeing my body as a battle ground and see myself as a fluid unit of expression. Studying breathing exercises also presented a new found control; both as a means to support the exploration of my vocal range in performance and as a tool to centre myself when faced with any manner of anxiety.  I also learned essential skills in script reading and character building, deepening my understanding of both an actors and writers perspective, and supplying me with the analytical and technical tools to be prepared to tackle any script. Learning how to build and understand performance from the bedrock through to fruition ignited my curiosity for the art of acting - especially when feeling the creative potential that could be harnessed in every day activities to build a character/world from. My favourite ‘homework’ tasks were always the obscure; to shower in character, create a back story for someone sat in a cafe, try to copy other peoples style of walking, etc. I still use the tools I learnt with Kim as part of my daily wellness practice, and regularly cite to friends how our sessions not only enlightened my approach to understanding performance, but enlightened my approach to understanding my own being.

Honestly really was some of the most pivotal and vital work I've done in my life like really want you to know that! 🙂 “
